At Stafford Windows, we recently completed the transformation of a cold, polycarbonate conservatory with glass walls into a true, fully usable living space that can be enjoyed all year round. Like many older conservatories, the original polycarbonate roof made the room uncomfortable — too cold in winter, stifling in summer, and rarely used outside of a few mild days each year.
THE BRIEF
The homeowners’ main requirement was to turn their existing conservatory into a space that could be used comfortably all year round. The original polycarbonate roof caused extreme temperature changes, making the room too cold in winter and uncomfortably hot in summer, which meant it was largely unused.
They wanted a solution that improved insulation without sacrificing natural light, felt like a true extension of their home rather than a separate add-on, and complied fully with Building Regulations — all while being managed by a company they could trust to handle the process from start to finish.
WHAT WE DID
By replacing the inefficient roof system with a modern, high-performance insulated solution, we were able to dramatically improve thermal efficiency while retaining the natural light the homeowners loved with the use of large bifold doors and 2 sky vistas to allow light to flood the room. The new structure has effectively turned the conservatory into a seamless extension of the home, creating a warm, comfortable and practical room suitable for everyday living.
All works were fully Building Regulations compliant, with Stafford Windows managing the entire process from start to finish. From design and system selection through to Building Control approval, everything was handled in-house, allowing the homeowners to relax and enjoy watching their space be transformed without the usual stress.
